Brandon Voss

Brandon Voss is a journalist and entertainment writer living in New York, NY, United States.

He is a contributing writer for The Advocate, a national gay news magazine. He currently interviews mainstream celebrities for the monthly "A-List" column. He reviews New York theater for the monthly "Seat Filler" column on Advocate.com.[1][2]

As a contributing writer for Playbill, he has interviewed Hugh Jackman, Paul Reubens, Rajiv Joseph, John Leguizamo, Edie Falco, Ben Stiller, Nina Arianda, Hunter Parrish, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Rutina Wesley, Michael Mayer (director), Broadway cast members of Priscilla Queen of the Desert (musical), and The Book of Mormon (musical) stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]

In December 2006, it was reported that Voss was promoted from features editor to editor-in-chief of the now-defunct free New York-based LGBT weekly HX Magazine.[15][16] In September 2008, it was reported that Voss had stepped down from his position at HX after nearly four years with the publication to pursue freelance writing opportunities and to write a novel.[17][18]

For Advocate's "A-List" column (new as of January 2009), in which celebrities relevant to the LGBT community are interviewed, Voss has conducted Q&As with Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Nathan Lane, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Maya Rudolph, Hugh Dancy, Tyra Banks, Christina Hendricks, Fergie (singer), Julianne Moore, Helen Mirren, Chloë Sevigny, Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Phillippe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Katy Perry, Christina Ricci, Patrick Wilson (actor), Ryan Kwanten, Mila Kunis, Jason Sudeikis, Zooey Deschanel, Mark Ruffalo, Rashida Jones, Emma Stone, Rose McGowan, Sofia Vergara, Kellan Lutz, and Dylan McDermott. Voss' "Big Gay Following" interview with Adrien Brody sparked mild controversy: While some readers felt Voss' line of questioning was inappropriate, others felt that Brody lacked a sense of humor.[23][24][25][26] DNA Magazine Online conducted a poll asking whether or not Voss "went too far."[27]

Voss' June 2010 interview with Joan Rivers was mentioned on Chelsea Lately, Page Six, and other major blogs due to the comedian's controversial statements about closeted gay actors.[28][29][30]

Voss' August 2008 interview with Lady Gaga for HX was the pop artist's first cover story and the first interview in which she publicly discussed her bisexuality.[31][32][33][34][35]

Voss received a notable amount of attention on the blogosphere for his exclusive HX interviews with Jason Preston, former rentboy and longtime boyfriend of fashion designer Marc Jacobs.[36][37][38][39][40]

After Voss asked a question about Ashlee Simpson's then-alleged nose job, Janice Dickinson called him "an asshole" and abruptly hung up during a June, 2006, phone interview for HX. Voss says he considers the incident "a career highlight."[41]

Voss was a guest judge for the 2010 New York City drag competition, So You Think You Can Drag.[42]

Voss has been a guest on The Frank DeCaro Show and the Derek & Romaine Show on Sirius XM Radio's OutQ.[43]

Personal

Voss is from New Orleans, LA. He was born on February 16, 1978. He attended Tulane University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in theater,[44][45] and where he performed in a number of stage productions.[46][47]

He is sometimes confused with a New York party promoter with the same name.[48]
